Syllabus

This unit introduces the fundamentals of Project Management. Key topics include opportunity and scope development with a focus on sustainability as well as the management of projects in a high-risk environment. A key focus is on project management, including the Project Execution Plan, scope development, scheduling, estimating, systems engineering and resource allocation. This unit also introduces project reporting including variation management, contract management, schedule review and cost control. Contract and OH&S Law is covered. There is also a focus on Engineering, Construction, and Commissioning Management.

Unit Learning Outcomes

  • 1 communicate the qualitative and quantitative aspects of project management in a engineering context, GC1, GC2, GC3, GC4, GC6
  • 2 solve engineering management problems when working within multicultural, multinational and inter-disciplinary environments, GC1, GC4, GC5, GC6
  • 3 integrate and evaluate project management techniques, tools/methods in the engineering environment (individually or within teams) towards an appreciation of the role of the project manager in sustainable projects, GC1, GC4, GC5, GC6
