Introduction

This unit covers the drawing standards and techniques that are used to describe objects using their orthogonal views. For this, it focuses at two aspects of engineering drawings; 1) Learning the principles, rules and standards that govern the creation and interpretation of engineering drawings, 2) Learning AutoCAD that is used for creating drawings. The unit also covers 3D modelling of objects, assemblies, and CAD/CAM integration. The engineering modelling section of the unit employs SolidWords. You have enrolled in the internal availability for this unit. All students enrolled in the internal availability use the specific unit Blackboard site for their resources.
Lecture 11 x 1 Hours Semester
Computer Laboratory 12 x 3.33 Hours Semester

Unit Learning Outcomes

  • 1 draw standard engineering drawings using drawing standards and abbreviations, GC1, GC3, GC4, GC6
  • 2 create and interpret multi-view engineering drawings, including sectional and auxiliary views, GC1, GC3, GC6
  • 3 apply design specifications to develop solid models of engineering components and assemblies using industry-standard digital tools, GC1, GC2, GC3, GC6

Course Learning Outcomes

  • 2 Solve complex Industrial and Systems engineering problems of industrial and societal significance through the application of discipline-specific and integrated bodies of knowledge, design and sustainability principles
  • 5 Select and use current and emerging technologies to develop and communicate effective and innovative engineering solutions to complex problems
